Osaka named host of 2007 world athletics championships

OSAKA, Japan - Osaka Mayor Takafumi Isomura meets the press Nov. 15 in Osaka after the International Association of Athletics Federations officially named Osaka as host of the 2007 world championships. Osaka will be the second Japanese host of the biennial championships after Tokyo in 1991 staged the only world meet held so far in Asia. The selection of Osaka came a year after the city was eliminated in the first round of votes by the International Olympic Committee in the bidding race for the 2008 Olympics, which was won by Beijing.
